Damon well understands the fiscal challenges Hastings District Council and other NZ Councils face today in delivering the range of services required by their citizens. He is a pragmatist and has a balanced approach to best meeting all the current fiscal challenges, whilst having a visionary mind for the needed mid to longer term solutions.

A track record of being involved in community and the development of our youth

In addition to his Council work, and underpinned by a foundation of resilience, Damon has shown a remarkable ability to balance his Council commitments with business activities, community involvement, personal health and well-being, and importantly, family time.

To my knowledge, Damon has attended every council meeting, cast every council vote, and attended most council events. Damon lives what he espouses. Hastings has much to offer, and he seeks to see that flourish.

Let’s keep Hastings moving forward, with purpose, pride and progress.

It’s time to take positive action to ensure our district keeps building on its momentum. Hastings is already moving in the right direction. With strong, effective leadership, we can achieve even more.

Born and raised here, I’ve called Flaxmere, Hastings and Havelock North home. It’s where my wife and I have raised our five children. It’s where we live, work and play. I care deeply about this place and the people who make it what it is.

As a Hastings District Councillor, I’ve held key roles—Chair of Performance & Monitoring, Deputy Chair of Strategy & Policy and Greater Communities, and Chair of Active Transport. I’ve also advised our local business associations in Hastings and Havelock North.

I’m proud of the progress we’ve made. We’ve revitalised the CBD, invested in critical water infrastructure, and made the consenting process faster and more practical. We’ve supported a strong economy, while encouraging a more agile, can-do approach at council.

But leadership isn’t just about progress, it’s about accountability. Ratepayers deserve transparency, clear priorities, and a council that treats every dollar with care. I’ll continue to push for responsible spending and decision-making that reflects what matters most to our community.

I also bring real-world experience as a local business owner, running Attn Marketing and The Profit business magazine. I stay connected through business and voluntary governance roles with Mates4Life, Sportslink, and the Jarrod Cunningham Youth Sport Trust.

I believe Hastings deserves strong, decisive leadership. Someone who can unite people, front up when it counts, and get things done. I’m ready to lead with honesty, focus and ambition for our future.

Let’s back Hastings. Let’s take the next step, together.
